Our services

The foundation of MILES’ services is international payrolling. However, there is more to cross-border work and employment of international employees. For this reason, we offer a broader range of services. Based on your specific situation and wishes, we offer a tailor-made process, which can include a variety of services. We are happy to unburden you at every step. You can read more about the services we offer here.

International payrolling

Bringing in specialised labour from abroad usually involves complex administrative, fiscal and legal issues. This is related to ever-changing local laws and regulations. Keeping track of this is a job in itself and not a core activity for most organisations. For MILES, on the other hand, it is.

Always compliant

MILES offers international payroll services and unburdens clients at every step. If you work with MILES, we guarantee remuneration of your expats and everything related to this is properly organised, in accordance with the most recent local laws and regulations. This way you can be sure that you are always compliant.

Knowledge, experience and versatility

In addition to in-depth knowledge and years of experience, international payrolling also requires versatility. No two situations are the same, and this also applies to the way in which clients want to, and are able to, reward their international employees. Our specialists are happy to think along with you and provide insight into the most attractive arrangements from tax, administrative and legal points of view. For you and for your employees.

Recognised Sponsor with the IND

MILES specialises in pragmatic payrolling solutions for foreign workers and highly skilled migrants (EU and non-EU). As a Recognised Sponsor with the IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Service) we can place your international employees on our payroll and act as their legal employer. This is particularly useful if your organisation is not (yet) recognised by the IND and not listed in the public register of Recognised Sponsors.

Work permit and residence permit
MILES makes it possible for international employees to work in the Netherlands on a temporary basis or for a longer period. A work permit is required for non-European employees. Depending on the duration of employment in the Netherlands, a residence permit will also be required. For non-European employees who want to live and work in the Netherlands, specific requirements apply. For example, a highly skilled migrant’s employer must be established in the Netherlands, and also be registered as a Recognised Sponsor. MILES can fulfill this role for you. We are also happy to help you arrange insurances and accommodation. In short, we unburden you at every step.

30% ruling

Thanks to the 30% ruling, foreign employees with specific expertise (knowledge workers) can work in the Netherlands on attractive tax terms. The scheme offers a lump-sum tax-free allowance (30% allowance) for a five-year period, to cover all so-called ‘extraterritorial costs’. Together with our partner LIMES international, we arrange everything that is required for this.

Extraterritorial costs
Extraterritorial costs may include extra costs for stays outside the country of origin. This includes, among others:
● Travel costs to and from the country of origin
● Extra cost of living
● Duplicated housing costs
● Costs of applying for residence permits
● Costs for changing official documents (excl. work permit)
● Costs of language courses

More net salary, lower employer costs
Applying the 30% rule can result in a substantial increase in an employee’s net salary, while also reducing the employer’s costs. The maximum duration of the 30% ruling is five years, minus any previous periods of residence or employment in the Netherlands. During the duration of the 30% ruling, the salary standard must be continuously met.

Application procedure for the 30% ruling
An application for the 30% ruling can be made at the joint request of employee and employer. If this is done within four months of the first day of employment, the scheme applies retroactively from day one of the employment. Otherwise, the scheme applies from the first day of the month following the month in which the request is submitted.

Would you like to know more about the 30% ruling?
Feel free to contact us if we can help you apply for and correctly introduce the 30% ruling for your international employees. Read more about the 30% ruling on the LIMES website.

For employees

International employees coming to work in the Netherlands face a variety of laws, regulations and practical challenges. We have listed the most important issues for you below. We would be happy to assist you with these and any other issues that you, as a new employee, may have to deal with.

Income tax
Everyone in the Netherlands who receives a tax return form from the Belastingdienst (Dutch Tax Authorities) needs to file an income tax return. Even if you have not received this letter, it may be advantageous to file a tax return if you are expecting a refund. Our experienced experts are at your side and have in-depth knowledge in this area. They will help you optimise your personal income tax situation and prepare your tax return as favourably as possible.

Collective health insurance
Everyone living in the Netherlands is obliged to have health care insurance. Thanks to our collaboration with a reputable Dutch health insurer, we can offer international employees attractive collective health insurance. You can also contact us for advice on other types of insurance.

Housing
A suitable home and for example, a good school for the children are important prerequisites for successfully establishing yourself in another country. We are happy to make use of our knowledge, experience and international network to make this possible for you.

In the Netherlands, employees who have fallen ill are paid their salary by their employer for the first two years. As an employer, you are also obliged to contribute to the recovery of your sick employees. This is done in consultation with an Occupational Health and Safety Service (Arbodienst). We will be happy to assist you and, if required, advise you on the possibility of absenteeism insurance. You can also contact us for advice on other types of insurance.

For intermediaries

The labour market is changing. The demand for highly educated personnel exceeds the supply, as the growth of suitable personnel is slower. The talent pool from which intermediaries can find suitable personnel is shrinking. This results in higher wages and an increase in staff turnover.

In order to find the right personnel for your client, you may need to expand your search to outside of the EU. Additionally, we understand that you would like to offer your client personnel for a longer period and that is exclusive to one client.

MILES makes this possible. All you must do is find the right personnel. We arrange the rest.

You do the recruitment and selection
We leave the recruitment and selection process entirely in your and your client’s hands. However, there are various conditions that the talent must meet to use our services. It is our pleasure to explain these conditions in more detail in a personal meeting.

Employership
As a Recognised Sponsor we will act as the legal employer and put the talent recruited by you on our payroll. In doing so, we take care of the complete outsourcing of the administrative, fiscal, and legal tasks related to cross-border employment, including the 30% ruling.

Work permit
By acting as a Recognised Sponsor, we make it possible for highly educated international talent to be employed legally in the Netherlands. We take the complete application for the work and residence permit out of your hands.

Always compliant
MILES offers international back-office services and takes care of clients from A to Z. When choosing MILES, your payroll and everything that comes with it is guaranteed to be properly regulated in accordance with the latest local laws and regulations. This way you can be sure that you and your client are always compliant.
